Republican Congresswoman Jackie Walorski of Indiana’s 2nd Congressional District was killed in a multiple-fatality head-on car accident in Elkhart County, Indiana on Wednesday, WTRC 95.3 FM in Mishawaka, Indiana reports.
Cars heading northbound and southbound on State Road 19/119 smashed head-on into each other. Police have not yet released more details of the accident. Also killed in the accident were Zachary Potts of the St. Joseph County Republican Party and Emma Thompson, Walorski’s communication director. The fourth victim was apparently the driver of the other vehicle.
The four-term Congresswoman was part of the GOP contingent to vote against the certification of the 2020 Presidential election, and she was one of 126 members of the House who signed on to an amicus brief submitted to the Supreme Court in support of the Texas effort to violate the Constitution and sue to have the results of the 2020 presidential election from Pennsylvania overturned; the Supreme Court rejected the motion. Walorski ran unopposed for reelection in the 2022 Republican primary. The GOP will now have to appoint an alternate candidate for the general election.
