Two small private planes collided over a California airport as the aircraft were both approaching to land, CNN reports. The two planes–a single-engine Cessna 152 with one person on board and a twin-engine Cessna 340 carrying two people–were both descending to land at the two-runway airport in Watsonville.
The Watsonville airport is uncontrolled, meaning there’s no tower or air traffic control facility at the airport to direct planes flying in the area. Instead, Watsonville uses a common radio frequency for planes to communicate between themselves.
A photo from the scene posted by the city shows debris from the crash impacted into a service shed at the airport. The FAA is investigating the crash.
