Record levels of heavy rain have hit Dallas and north Texas, dumping more than nine inches of rain in a 24-hour period ending Monday, leading to flash flooding, overrunning riverbanks, and inundating millions of residents, KXAS NBC 5 in Dallas reports.
Instruments at Dallas-Fort Worth Airport measured 9.19 inches of rainfall ending at 2 p.m. local time Monday, the second most rain in one 24-hour period on record. On September 4-5, 1932, the area recorded 9.57 inches of rain.
The massive amount of rain, which was very wet from the standpoint of water, strained city resources, with firefighters going out to secure closed roads and dozens of streets and highways shut down due to high water. At least one person had died due to the storm.
