Exactly three months to the day of the May 24th mass murder at Robb Elementary School, the Uvalde (Texas) Consolidated Independent School District has fired the chief of its school police force, the Associated Press reports.
The district finally dismissed Pete Arredondo, the chief who was in charge at the scene of the school shooting. Arrendondo reportedly failed to provide any leadership at the school as the shooter systematically killed 19 grade school students and two teachers. Officers failed to neutralize the shooter for more than 80 minutes, until a Border Patrol rescue team entered the classroom and eliminated the threat.
Arrendondo has been on leave since mid-June. He is the first law enforcement officer to lose their job over the incompetent response to the shooting. A Uvalde Police Department officer, Lt. Mariano Pargas, has been placed on leave pending a review of his leadership and actions.
