Officials are warning of potential flash flooding in northwest Georgia after the area was hit with 10 to 13 inches of rain overnight, the start of a three-day storm that could drop as much as two inches of rain an hour into Tuesday, CNN reports.
“This is a PARTICULARLY DANGEROUS SITUATION. SEEK HIGHER GROUND NOW! Life threatening flash flooding of low water crossings, small creeks and streams, urban areas, highways, streets and underpasses,” the National Weather Service stated in its emergency notice.
At least of foot of rain was expected to hit Chattooga and Floyd counties Sunday, causing rivers to overflow their banks. The state has declared a state of emergency and encouraged residents to evacuate the area.
