The trustees of President James Madison’s historic home in Montpelier, Virginia have invited pop singer Lizzo to perform at the venue after she singlehandedly elevated the fourth President of the United States back into the public spotlight, the Los Angeles Times reports.
On a tour of the Flute Vault at the Library of Congress, Lizzo–who is a classically trained flutist who studied at the University of Houston’s acclaimed Moores School of Music–played a crystal flute that was gifted to Madison. She then played the instrument at a concert later at Madison Square Garden, twerking as she did, which sent reactionary conservative snowflakes into a tizzy because Black woman.
While less than 0.00001% of the people complaining about a musician playing a historic flute didn’t even know the instrument existed a week ago, they now find a Black woman playing the flute and dancing to be an affront to all civilized society in the same way they’re offended by gay couples getting married.
