President Joe Biden said the risk of nuclear war is at the highest it has been since the Cuban Missile Crisis of 1962, when the Soviets tried to station nuclear weapons 90 miles off the coast of Florida, Reuters reports.
Speaking at a fundraiser in New York City, Biden noted that Russian President Vladimir Putin’s threat that he would order the use of nuclear arms would lead to Armageddon, even if it was the use of a small-yield tactical weapon.
“For the first time since the Cuban Missile Crisis, we have a direct threat to the use of nuclear weapons, if in fact things continue down the path they’d been going,” Biden said, adding, “I don’t think there’s any such thing as the ability to easily (use) a tactical nuclear weapon and not end up with Armageddon.”
