NASA officials announced Tuesday that last month’s Double Asteroid Redirection Test (DART) mission was a success, and the asteroid Dimorphos had been observably diverted from its non-collision course with Earth to a different non-collision course with Earth.
Which means that, given enough lead time to deploy another one, the rest of the world can count on America to stop an incoming asteroid that would wipe out civilization – provided a future second Trump Administration and/or a Republican Congress don’t defund NASA for being too “woke” in its recruitment ads or canceling the launch because Germany and France didn’t pay their fair share.
