At least eleven people were killed at a military training and staging facility in Belgorod region of Russia, a base being used to supply and support Putin’s failing invasion of Ukraine, the Washington Post reports.
“Two citizens of one of the CIS countries committed a terrorist act at the training ground of the Western Military District in the Belgorod Region,” TASS state news agency reported, citing the ministry’s readout. CIS is the Commonwealth of Independent States, a union of Russia, Belarus, Moldova and several Central Asian countries. “The two terrorists were killed by return fire.”
It’s possible that by referring to the CIS, the Kremlin is signaling the shooters were from Ukraine or one of the Ukrainian regions recently annexed by Russian President Vladimir Putin. Ukrainian was formerly a member-nation of the Commonwealth of Independent States.
