The administration of Republican Florida Governor Ron DeSantis is notorious for trying to hide information or provide misleading data, and that’s been true relating to his human trafficking scheme that shipped nearly 50 Venezuelan asylum seekers from Texas to Martha’s Vineyard, Massachusetts. But late Friday, the DeSantis administration was forced by a court order to make public documents relating to the taxpayer-funded political stunt, and there’s good reason DeSantis was hiding the information.
According to Politico, the documents show DeSantis’s hand-picked public safety czar, Larry Keefe, traveled to Texas to oversee the program, from recruiting the migrants to watching the flight take off. Keefe was also in contact with DeSantis chief of staff, James Uthmeier, who texted that Keefe had his full support.
The text exchange between Keefe and Uthmeier might also prove troublesome for Republican Texas Governor Greg Abbott: texts between the two Florida men seem to confirm the Florida government had notified the Texas government of the action. Texas officials had previously said they had no information that DeSantis and his cabal planned to kidnap by misrepresentation asylum seekers in the state, but Uthmeier texted Keefe on September 5th–about 10 days before the flight–“TX is aware of Dash, FYI. No worries here.”
