A Pierson, Florida man was arrested at a car dealership in Naples, about 250 to the south, after he started parading around the business armed with an assault rifle and then trying to hide among the cars on the lot beneath a camouflage blanket, the Daytona Beach News-Journal reports.
Micah Bennett, the 26-year-old son of Pierson’s mayor, was captured at a Jaguar dealership after about 15 minutes, during which he taunted and threatened the workers and customers. When police located his vehicle, they found 14 handguns, three rifles including two AR-15 style guns, brass knuckles, a bullet proof vest, and more than 100 pounds–not rounds–of ammunition. He’s been charged with four counts of aggravated assault with a deadly weapon.
“The subject was heavily armed and prepared to cause havoc in our community,” said Naples police Chief Tom Weschler. “Thanks to the public’s awareness and quick notification to the police department, as well as our officers’ rapid response, a potentially catastrophic event was averted.”
