Embattled Ontario MP Han Dong on Wednesday announced his resignation from the Liberal Party caucus, just hours after GlobalNews.ca reported Dong had in 2021 told a ChiCom diplomat that the Xi Regime should hold off on freeing two Canadian citizens being held in China on bogus espionage charges while the Canucks were jailing a Huawei exec for extradition to the US on a federal warrant.
“I have informed the prime minister and the leadership of the Liberal Party caucus that I will be sitting as an Independent at the conclusion of these remarks. Mr Speaker, I am in your hands as to what happens next,” Dong said as he tearfully denied the accusations. “The allegations made against me are as false as the ones made against [former detainees Michael Kovrig and Michael Spavor]. Let me assure you, as a parliamentarian and as a person, I have never and would never advocate or support the violation of the basic human rights of any Canadian – of anyone, anywhere.”
Huawei exec Meng Wanzhou and the two Canadians Kovrig and Spavor were eventually repatriated to their respective homes in a September 24, 2021 prisoner swap. Dong had allegedly told ChiCom Toronto Consular General Tao Han in February of that year that the Xi Regime should hold off until after the elections because it would have hurt the Liberal Party. The 2021 Canadian general election was on September 20, 2021, so you can kind of see how this timeline is not good for Dong.
The revelation comes amid a larger pushback on ChiCom interference in Canadian elections, with the government looking at forming a commission to drop the hammer on scumbags like Dong and Conservative Ontario provincial MP Vincent Ke who is suspected of laundering XiBux for campaigns.
