Freshman Democratic Pennsylvania Senator John Fetterman was discharged from Walter Reed National Military Medical Center where he was being treated for clinical depression, CBS News reports. Having had a stroke in the midst of the campaign in which he whooped TeeVee doctor and Republican dilettante candidate Mehmet Oz, Fetterman came to Washington and was sworn in to the Senate, but soon checked himself in to the hospital for treatment.
Mental health professionals praised Fetterman’s honesty in discussing his mental health struggle post-election and post-stroke, lauding his openness in dealing with a condition that is frequently hidden and often leads to tragic outcomes. Fetterman will rejoin the Senate after its recess.
