A Maryland sheriff who once testified before the state legislature about how gun regulations threaten liberty has been arrested by federal agents for submitting applications for licenses to obtain machine guns for his department but then turning over the weapons to a shooting range owner who already illegally possessed at least other seven machine guns, per the Washington Post.
Frederick County Sheriff Charles Austin Jenkins was arrested with Robert Justin Krop, owner of the Machine Gun Nest in Frederick–regionally known as “Fredneck” for its good ol’ boy community–for using the credentials of the sheriff’s office to obtain three machine guns for evaluation and demonstration. Krop asked Jenkins to write the letters to get the authority from the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives. Once approval was secured and the weapons obtained in 2018, Jenkins turned the weapons over to Krop to use at the range. After getting the guns, Krop make more than $100,000 renting the weapons at the range.
