An estimated 1,160 Americans died from the coronavirus in the past week, data indicate, marking the lowest number of fatalities from the virus since March 2020, the nascent days of the pandemic, ABC News reports.
During the week of March 18, 2020, just 169 confirmed deaths to the coronavirus were reported, with the following week marking the 1,000th fatality in the US, and deaths jumping to 500 per day by March 27th. The US dropped below the 300-fatalities per day in mid-March 2023 and has remained around or below 200 daily coronavirus deaths for most of April.
