The New York State Independent Redistricting Commission’s 2022 fuck you to Democrats who aggressively tried to fuck the Republicans out of as many as six seats in the US House just moved toward getting unfucked Thursday as an appeals court ordered the IRC to redraw the maps as more favorable to Dems again, ruthless liberal election lawyer Marc Elias reports on his website.
Republicans will appeal and ultimately fail as the the state’s top court’s bench has shifted since the last try, likely netting Dems between four and six seats after a new blue gerrymander. As for whether or not it’s “fair,” to Republican voters and Congresscritters, no it’s not. But fuck them. This isn’t happening in a vacuum where Red States didn’t carve up cities like Nashville and Salt Lake City with blatant zeal. Fair would be if every state was required by the federal government to have a bipartisan commission with the final say on determining House district boundaries. House and Senate Republicans had the opportunity to work with Democrats make that happen in 2021 and 2022. They decided they were happier with this endless back-and-forth retaliation.
