George Chidi, an independent journalist who writes a local politics blog has received two separate subpoenas to testify before the Fulton County grand jury investigating Donald Trump’s efforts to overturn Georgia’s election results, the Atlanta Journal-Constitution reports. He’s been asked to testify sometime between August 7th and August 30th.
In the capitol on December 14th, 2020 to witness the official declaration of delegates by the state, Chidi recognizes some Republicans were meeting in a room down the hall. With his camera recording, Chidi went into the room before being quickly ushered out; participants told him it was an “education meeting,” but later put a guard on the door to prevent anyone else from entering. Later, they invited members of the media in to witness the signing ceremony.
However, the organization of the meeting is of interest to Willis and Special Counsel Jack Smith as a way to determine who the organizers of the event were and if they had assistance from organizations closer to Trump, like Rudy Giuliani.
Having written for Rolling Stone, the Intercept and other publications, Chidi said he would consult with an attorney to determine how much of what he witnessed could be covered by press freedom laws. He has already related what happened to other news outlets, so he may have waived some of those options.
