Several central Florida Republican state lawmakers are considering “all legislative, legal and executive options available” to force businesses in a small Orlando-area city to stop displaying rainbow “safe space” decals to indicate that they’re LGBTQ+ friendly establishments, warning that the completely voluntary city-sponsored initiative puts the community “in the crosshairs of potentially detrimental and absolutely unnecessary economic harm,” Local10.com reports.
The Mount Dora, Florida city council approved the program last month only to be met with the angry letter dated August 21, 2023 and signed by Republican state Senator Dennis Baxley and Representatives Keith Truenow, Taylor Yarkosky, and Stan McClain, warning they “simply won’t stand for any policy that leads to divisive and unsafe conditions for the residents of our great county. This absolutely goes against all the Constitutional, Biblical, Law and Order principles that this country was founded on and still continue to make this country great today, where deployed.”
