A new Washington Post analysis of FEC filings finds that security costs for candidates running for Congress increased more than 500 percent from 2020 to 2022 as MAGA terrorist threats increased dramatically in the aftermath of the January 6, 2021 Capitol insurrection – complemented by a concordant change in federal campaign finance rules that made it easier to spend on security.
“We’re not far away from a member who has faced a barrage of threats being attacked at a time that they did not have a threat detail, and I hate to say that, but I know that’s coming,” said California Dem Congressman Eric Swalwell, who told the Post about some white trash MAGA asshole confronting and purposely on him and his 5 year-old son when they stopped at a Chipotle in Ohio.
