At least twice over the past three days disgraced former President Trump’s campaign has sent out an email asking fans to “Please add your name to my Official Petition: Restore President Donald J Trump’s First Amendment Rights,” an action call likely representing the apex of MAGA dumbassery.
Something makes this considerably fucking dumber and weirder than the lame unscientific polls they have people answer and then not even show the current result afterwards (the most recent one’s question of “On a scale of 1-5, with 5 being ‘I would write in President Trump’s name even if left-wing judges removed his name from the ballot,’ how strongly do you support President Trump?” is a whole other hilarious can of worms). Setting aside that entering one’s contact data and even more so a credit card number for the campaign contribution prompted afterward is what they’re really after in both the “petition” and the “polls,” the latter at least carries some vague quantum of feedback like rating a customer support person’s helpfulness after you’ve interacted with them.
Does the Trump campaign actually use the feedback data? Almost certainly not. The tiny theoretical possibility that they could do so however is more than we can say about this “petition.”
Really wish they would be more specific with their lie here and say that this “petition” is going to the Supreme Court, that the Trump legal team will print out hundreds of pages of names, slap it on the dais where all the justices sit, and say “Look at how many Americans DEMAND you overturn the lower court ruling taking away President Trump’s constitutional rights to free speech!”
That would be funny bullshit. Instead they’re just not even really implying that it’s somehow meaningful, unlike that one MAGA troll on Disqus who claimed back in 2020 that a friggin Change.org petition to recall Michigan Governor Gretchen Whitmer was gaining momentum.
Anyway that petition batshittery came on Sunday and Monday while the gag order was still Trump’s biggest problem at the federal appellate level in DC. Later Jack Smith took the presidential immunity issue to the Supreme Court and the email on that was fucking crazy even by Trump’s standards:
Crooked Joe’s prosecutor just made an emergency request for the Supreme Court to TAKE AWAY MY PRESIDENTIAL IMMUNITY. He’s bypassing the Appeals Court, skipping normal procedures and arguments, and asking for an IMMEDIATE RULING to ROB me of a right that has been granted to every other President in history. The Biden Administration is DEADSET on having my trial begin and end before the 2024 Presidential Election. Their goal is to WRONGLY CONVICT and IMPRISON their leading opponent – ME – before Election Day in an attempt to keep the White House under Biden’s control. If the ruling party can get away with abusing the courts to assert its dominance over the people of our country, then our once Free Republic is DEAD. Make no mistake, Patriot. This is NOT about my own fate. The threat of imprisoning me for 1,000 years pales in comparison to the DEATH of America.
The in the “final note” on Monday was:
I’m back home at Mar-A-Lago after I made the decision NOT TO TESTIFY in the RIGGED TRIAL against me. I REFUSE to legitimize this despicable witch hunt. As our final defense witness takes the stand tomorrow, we will be nearing the conclusion of the trial. Once closing arguments are over, we will await the verdict as to whether I unjustly receive the “corporate death penalty.” In my case, I don’t even get a jury to decide my verdict. My verdict will be in the hands of a judge who has shown an intense and extreme bias against me – even SLAMMING his hands on a desk and YELLING at my attorneys in an unhinged manner – and predetermined that I committed “fraud” before I even set foot in the courtroom.
By that standard, Trump already “legitimized” the trial when he testified last month.
