Random thoughts Friday, Volume CLV

  • Chutkan, Pan, Childs, Henderson–the four women overseeing Trump’s DC case from the bench–have grabbed ‘im by the, um, briefs. He’s about to get the judicial equivalent of an atomic wedgie.
  • Ron DeSantis needs to finish with at least 30% of the vote in the Iowa caucuses to remain viable in the race.  He’s spent all his resources in the state and invested time for his “99 counties” stunt among other things, so anything short of stomping on the non-Trump field will be another complete failure for the campaign.
  • If the Courts end up ruling Presidential immunity from any criminal prosecution exists, Joe Biden gets it, too and can exercise it immediately.  He’s the one in the Oval Office after all, so… If you win the case, sleep with one eye open, Don. One. Eye. Open.
  • I believe Trump has made a calculation:  he does not believe he will ever face prison time due to his status as an ex-president, so he’s far more worried about the financial penalties he’ll have to shell out because (1) he doesn’t have the money and (2) he doesn’t want to lose his lifestyle. He’s most worried about the New York civil case that could cost him every cent in cash he has.
  • A Boeing 737 Max 9s still have fewer loose nuts in key places than the GOP.
  • Florida’s Republicans changed its laws so Ron DeSantis could campaign for President and remain governor of the state, then they shielded his state-paid travel expenses to hide the waste.  That’s turned out well, eh?
  • Alina Habba continues to try to argue a case in the media a case Trump already lost in the courts.  She (and he) are speaking like they think Engoron is going to overturn the decision.  This is why Trump supporters are so disconnected to reality:  their sources of news are blatantly lying to them.
  • Lloyd Austin’s hospitalization doesn’t bother me.  That the public didn’t know doesn’t exceptionally bother me.  But the fact the White House didn’t know about it or the preceding surgery is bothersome on a lot of levels.
  • They’re not kids.  They’re adults in their 40s.  If they’re old enough to brag about their kids, they’re not kids.  Stop referring to them as such.  They’re old enough to do time for their malfeasance.
  • It’s disappointing to see a brand that you’ve supported from its earliest days (like, selling on etsy) get sold and then completely betray the foundational products of the brand.  It’s nice for the founders who likely made some money, but seeing a brand built on being scent-free or minimally-fragranced turn into the next Axe Body Spray.
  • Trump’s rant in his New York fraud trial made no difference:  the outcome was already determined and the final penalties will be made by a judge, so Trump’s performance art didn’t influence a jury and won’t impact the final determination.  I do wish cameras had been there to capture the temper tantrum and subsequent storming out of the room like a teenager told his streaming privileges are suspended until his bedroom is cleaned.
  • Is there a train version of the Mile High Club?  “Are you an Amtramp?  Conrailed?  Ridden the Norfolk Southern, if you know what I mean?”
  • Hunter Biden’s hearing appearance was brilliance.  Think about it:  we’re talking about Hunter showing up.  Nothing said in the GOP dog-and-pony show of a hearing–except the butt-hurt Marge–got any news coverage.  Hunter getting up and walking out was the headline.
  • I’m nowhere near a Millennial, but that generation will be a transformative one in American history, like Boomers but in a positive way.
  • Chris Christie is too pragmatic for the Republican Party.  He’s talking reality while the Base continues to drink Trump’s Kool-Aid.  I can’t stand his politics, but he’s saying the things the GOP needs to hear, and hopefully, it’ll bring sane Republicans to the polls for Democrats, not MAGAts.
  • Best uses for brown bananas:  Pancakes when you realize you have bananas when you’re making them.  When you realize you forgot you had bananas after you ate your pancakes, you can make banana bread. If you REALLY plan, mash the bananas on top of bread pudding before you pour the syrup on and bake it.  The peels can be used in a traditional tea to help treat insomnia or used to clean tarnished silver.  Your choice.
  • The enjoyment of having a fire in the fireplace can quickly be overwhelmed by the feeling of forced labor it sometimes takes to keep said fire going.
