This Hill homepage story from Sunday is, uh, quite a breath of fresh air for those of us who have spent the last few months ripping our fucking hair out watching round-the-clock coverage of “concerns” over Biden being too old while Trump skated and skated on insane bullshit like saying Obama is the current president and repeatedly claiming he had some secret deal with Xi Jingping to stop fentanyl trafficking into the US but for some reason it blew up when Biden won.
Like everything with the lamest parts of our mainstream media’s lame hive mind, the bullshit tropes of “neutral” coverage still find their way to the surface, like another headline The Hill pushed out on a related story that said “Stefanik pushes back on reports Trump mixed up Haley, Pelosi,” emphasis on “reports” because it literally fucking happened on live television and those incompetent dumbasses acted like it was an account of some private meeting that got leaked anonymously.
But The Hill’s passive-aggressive framing is far outweighed by the fact they’re even covering Trump’s obvious mental decline at all. And it’s not just them either. Ever since Saturday it’s been story after story after story from outlets that a few months ago were wondering why Trump seems to have so much more acuity and energy than his rival in the White House as if it wasn’t their own goddamned narrative that largely contributed to such supposedly widely held perceptions.

We could sit here and theorize about why switch flipped, writing three paragraphs about how the “media spotlight suddenly fixated on Trump as presumptive nominee” but who the hell cares. It happened and now Trump has to deal with it… and you can tell he and his team are getting scared.

On Saturday we wrote about how Trump and the MAGA House GOP’s fuckery on a bipartisan border deal could very easily end up blowing up in their faces by turning what’s supposed to be their strength into a weakness. While that storyline has some similarities to this one, there’s actually probably a better fit in the now almost five-years long Hunterghazi and Laptopgate bullshit.
From Day One, the first, last, and only goal of making shit up to make Biden look as corrupt as Trump was not to convince Biden voters to switch. Even Trump voters know he’s corrupt. They don’t give a fuck, never did, and never will. The formula’s always been to get people in the softer, low-info middle to just throw up their hands and say “They’re both so corrupt!” knowing that Trump’s cult will always push him to the top of a nihilistic, unhappy electorate like the one in 2016.
Just like Republicans have worked for so hard and so long to dull Biden’s edge on honesty and integrity to that effect, Trump himself is now very rapidly dulling the very fake edge he had on mental fitness over a president who occasionally has senior moments and blurts out stupid shit but is not at all emotionally disturbed. Like Trump was already lying about Nancy Pelosi being responsible for the Capitol riot, the fact that he couldn’t even get her fucking name right while doing so just compounds the problem. And now he’s Streisand effecting it by challenging Haley to a cognitive test. God willing this is just beginning of a full-on breakdown. We’re here for it.
