A cruise missile fired by Houthi rebels in Yemen came within a mile of the USS Gravely, a Navy destroyer, before the ship’s Close-In Weapons System (CIWS) destroyed the weapon, CNN reports, marking the closest one of the Houthi attacks has come to hitting a US Navy vessel during the current operation. Using a machine gun-based system Phalanx to fire a wall of bullets at the missile, destroying it in the air. Previously, US warships in the region have intercepted missiles outside an eight-mile radius of the vessel using ship- or aircraft-launched intercepting missiles.
