FBI agents arrested January 6th insurrectionist John Emanuel Banuelo on Friday on charges related to firing a handgun at least twice during the Republican-led domestic terrorist attack on Congress, blowing a hole into the MAGA talking point that the crowd was comprised of a bunch of unarmed tourists peacefully demonstrating to undermine the Constitution.
Banuelo, who lives in Illinois, had been identified by online sleuths who had previously identified him in other locations. Last week, though, Republican West Virginia House candidate Derrick Evans released cell phone footage of the attack showing someone firing a gun; the “sedition hunters” pounced on the video and matched Banuelo.
As a sidenote: Banuelo was arrested in July 2021 after he fatally stabbed a 19-year-old man at a park in Utah, but he charges were dropped after he claimed he acted in self-defense.
