The chief of staff for the recently-murdered opposition leader Alexei Navalny was attacked with tear gas and a hammer as he was getting into his car in Vilnius, Lithuania, Politico reports, signaling another wave of violent retribution for people who oppose Russian President Vladimir Putin.
Leonid Volkov reportedly just got seated in his car outside his home when someone approached the car and smashed out the window with a hammer. The attacker sprayed the tear gas into the vehicle and started attacking Volkov with the hammer. Volkov was taken to a hospital by ambulance and is being treated for non-life-threatening injuries.
