Another conspiracy shot: new study confirms there’s no link between coronavirus vaccine, deaths in young people

A new study released by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention shows there is no link between young adults receiving a coronavirus vaccine and incidents of heart disease or fatal heart events in them, NBC News reports in another reality-based study that won’t penetrate the thick walls of the MAGA Bubble.

The study examined the death certificates and lab reports of more than 1,200 Oregon residents between the ages of 16 and 30 who died of a heart-related condition or unknown causes between June 2020 and December 2022.  During that period, more than one million people received either the Pfizer or the Moderna mRNA vaccine in Oregon.

In the hundreds of cases studied, only 40 people within the demographic died of heart attacks or unknown causes, and only three died within 100 days of getting the vaccine:  two had serious underlying heart conditions and one’s cause of death remains a mystery because there was no underlying health issues, signs of illicit drug use, or other obvious contributing factor.

Anti-science conspiracists claim without evidence that the mRNA coronavirus vaccines increased the risk of death among young people, particularly by increasing the odds of getting myocarditis, an inflammation of the heart muscle that is typically treatable with medications.  Earlier studies put the rate for myocarditis among people who received the Covid vaccine at around 2 per 100,000 cases, compared to 30/100,000 for unvaccinated Covid patients.  In pre-pandemic times, myocarditis impacted on average 10 out of 100,000 people.

While there’s been no connection established between the coronavirus vaccines and unexplained death in young adults–particularly young athletes as anti-vax conspiracy theorists claim–the awareness of health issues arising from the pandemic and the irrational fear of the vaccine’s effects have led to the increased diagnosis of a different syndrome:  POTS, or postural orthostatic tachycardia syndrome, a little known condition that impacts 1- to 3 million Americans, particularly people in good physical condition, where sudden increases in heart rate can lead to dizziness, sudden fatigue, “brain fog,” temporary blindness, heart palpitations and fainting, among other symptoms.
