Senate Judiciary Chairman Dick Durbin will not order an investigation into Supreme Court Justice Samuel Alito flying an upside-down American flag–a sign of distress and danger–in front of his house in January 2021, NBC News reports. Alito blamed his wife, saying she got emotional and angry at a neighbor’s “Fuck Trump” yard sign.
“No, we haven’t got anything planned. I think he’s explained his situation. The American public understand what he did. But I don’t think there’s much to be gained with a hearing at this point. I think he should recuse himself from cases involving Trump and his administration,” Durbin said Monday. Asked what can be done if Alito refuses to recuse, he replied, “There’s no recourse other than impeachment, and we’re not at that point at all.”
