Though they’re still on track to maintain their majority, Indian dictator Narendra Modi’s Bharatiya Janata Party and their coalition partners had either won or were ahead in 287 of 543 total seats in Parliament, well short of the absolute beatdown expected as the rival Congress Party and their partners were leading in 230 constituencies in Tuesday’s vote count, the AP reports.
“Congress party and other opposition parties have showed tremendous resilience. To have a stronger opposition augurs very well for India’s democracy that has taken a hit during Modi’s 10-year rule,” political analyst Rasheed Kidwai told the AP. Exit polling from the weekend – India’s elections last for like six weeks, but Tuesday is the last day – had projected Modi’s coalition to take 350 seats.
Obvious mild ebbing of his power aside, the genocidal son of a bitch Modi will still almost certainly remain in in charge of the world’s largest “democracy” for a third five-year term.
