Barack Obama has voiced support for beleaguered incumbent President Joe Biden after Biden’s poor debate performance last Thursday, the Washington Post reports, saying words of support for Biden at a Democratic fundraiser on Friday. Obama phoned Biden after the debate, offering himself as a sounding board and personal advisor, which makes sense given only four other non-(convicted)-felons know what it’s like to serve as President.
To those close to him, Obama noted that Biden’s reelection effort was damaged by the debate showing, telling allies that Biden’s already tough slog to reelection got tougher because of how feeble and confused Biden appeared. But overall, Obama was understanding given he was widely lambasted for his first debate performance during his 2012 reelection campaign against Mitt Romney.
