More than 36 hours after Hurricane Beryl made landfall in Texas, nearly two million residents are still without power and authorities said it could be days before electricity is restored for hundreds of thousands of Texans as the state sees temperatures soar into the 90s, the Washington Post reports.
As Republican Governor Greg Abbott tours Asia, more than 1.6 million people around Houston sat without electricity as high temperatures soared into the mid-90s with a heat index around 106. Officials say power has been restored to more than seven million customers. Four people in Texas and one in Louisiana were killed as Beryl crashed through the region.
