Real life isn’t like some TGIF sitcom where the foreshadowing is obvious and hubris gets punished in obvious ways by writers who would be working on shows that were actually funny if they had the talent required. Which is to say simply because the selfish, unlikeable character says he has so many votes that he doesn’t need any more doesn’t mean he’s actually going to end up losing.
Still… This is exactly the sort of line the writers of Family Matters or Home Improvement would think was a clever way to set up the rest of the episode, especially when the younger sibling warns the arrogant teenager “I wouldn’t say that if I were youuuu…” Here in real life the Fox couchpeople just tried to change the subject and we cut that from the clip. It was all pride, no goeth before the fall.
