Saturday’s “Gays Eating Garlic Bread Festival” in Sioux City, Iowa became an impromptu charity fundraiser for local efforts to recover from recent flooding as organizers decided on the fly to contribute proceeds to the Siouxland Recovery Fund and Unity Way of Iowa, KCAU reports.
“It was supposed to just be a very small-like, low-key event for some friends who were gonna get together and have garlic bread and maybe someone music happening,” said Gay Garlic Bread event coordinator Elizabeth Stewart. “And the park we reserved got flooded so we all came together and said we’re going to do it and I was like well let’s do it as a flood recovery benefit because we knew that area needed help.” And yes, the event included a drag show and “other 18+ performances.”
