“Women are poorer than they were four years ago, are less healthy than they were four years ago, are less safe on the streets than they were four years ago, are more depressed and unhappy than they were four years ago, and are less optimistic and confident in the future than they were four years ago! I will fix all of that, and fast, and at long last this national nightmare will be over.”
“Women will be happy, healthy, confident, and free! You will no longer be thinking about abortion, because it is now where it always had to be, with the states, and a vote of the people – and with powerful exceptions, like those that Ronald Reagan insisted on, for rape, incest, and the life of the mother – but not allowing for Democrat-demanded late-term abortion in the 7th, 8th, or 9th month, or even execution of a baby after birth. I will protect women at a level never seen before.”
“They will finally be healthy, hopeful, safe, and secure. Their lives will be happy, beautiful, and great again!” posted convicted felon former President Trump late Friday… in all-caps but we had Google Gemini print it back out in normal people text. Donald appeared to be having a manic episode about the female vote, possibly due to his internal polls showing a massive, historic gender gap… Or Vice President Kamala Harris’s Friday speech in Georgia ripping “Trump abortion bans.” Probably both.
Donald’s really been amping up the provable falsehoods lately. Like not just the post-birth execution line, that’s an old one, but that whole second paragraph above is on the scale of his recent promise to reinstate the SALT deduction that he killed in 2017 and just outright lying about who instituted the national ban on flavored vape cartridges. There is effectively zero chance of any of that ever happening any time soon in Alabama, Indiana, Iowa, Louisiana, South Carolina, or Texas because those states do not provide for any route to put reproductive health directly on the ballot by citizen initiative. Then there’s Arkansas squashing a November ballot measure. In Florida the DeSantis Regime is working hard to kill Amendment 4 – using state government resources, naturally.
Just a few weeks ago Trump claimed “My Administration will be great for women and their reproductive rights” which (theoretically) could mean a lot of things. Even though everyone in the real world knows that means jack shit, as did all of Trump’s “moderation” on abortion before the forced-birthers forced a u-turn, there was at least enough ambiguity where his abortion-agnostic fanboys could vaguely pretend he’s magically going to undo the damage somehow, some way once he’s restored to power. Now Trump just outright made a promise that he provably cannot deliver on.
It’s a sign he’s starting to get very sloppy and it seems to betray legitimate desperation.
