Republican Kentucky state Senator Johnnie Turner died Tuesday, just over a month after he suffered grave injuries by driving his ride-on lawnmower into an empty swimming pool, WKYT reports.
Fellow Kentucky Republican Mitch McConnell, himself facing down death’s cold grip, eulogized Turner in a statement saying “In recent years, I remember crossing paths with Johnnie (Turner) to survey the damage left by the devastating floods that hit Eastern Kentucky. Johnnie was on the scene, ankle-deep in mud, his equipment from home in tow, ready to help folks in Letcher County.”
It’s not clear if Turner was intoxicated while driving the ride-on mower at night.
