The US embassy in Mexico on Sunday ordered Americans in cities Tecate, Ensenada, and Tijuana, and in Jalisco, Tamaulipas, Michoacan, Guerrero, and Nuevo Leon states – which sounds like an awful lot of the country – to shelter in place after a Mexican operation killed cartel boss “El Mencho” in Puerto Vallarta, warning “Due to ongoing security operations and related road blockages and criminal activity, US citizens in the named locations should shelter in place until further notice.”
There are not a small number of Americans currently at resorts within view of plumes of smoke rising from ongoing battles between the government and cartel factions – and the Costco in Vallarta is on fire. CBS’s Jen Jacobs reports that the CIA knew this was coming and now US citizens are in the kind of danger in that State Department bulletin. This could get very, very, very ugly.
