“The week where it felt like the bottom started falling out in earnest”

There’s simply too much material to work with these days – and too much overlap between all the material. Terabytes of articles and posts and that ridiculous Axios graphic screenshotted above, the flashing klaxon directed right at their GOP-donating readers. It’s at least third such deployment of the Sarah Grillo work by the bullet point factory since its November 25th, 2025 debut on “Behind the Curtain: Red alert” by founders Jim VandeHei and Mike Allen in which the ultra-connected power couple wrote “Everywhere Republicans look, they see big political trouble,” in their lede underneath.

Yet it’s the same image. Shouldn’t it become brighter or fiery or just animated now that the Republican Party’s political situation is considerably worse than it was late last year?

And lo-fucking-l, this turned up on a Google reverse image search to determine when the static red alert image was first slapped on an Axios article. Laughed a good five minutes…

So yeah, they upgraded to animated though that’s also a clear downgrade in composition with the inert and ugly green background. Must’ve been a rush job for this “Craptastic” article given it’s been only two days since they last used Grillo’s far more dramatic static version as the hero image.

Let that Axios even fucking has two different (well three actually because there’s one of the siren light layered onto a live elephant’s head on the September 4th article “Senate GOP’s Midwestern governor’s problem“) REPUBLICAN RED ALERT graphics be the statement on the deluge of material to work with before we get into the content itself, like the “national Republican pollster” quoted in the “Craptastic” article with “We’re having problems just getting Republican voters to respond to polls. At what point do we think these guys aren’t showing up at the actual polls on Election Day?”

A “top Republican advising several federal races across the country” says the “numbers are between shitabulous and craptastic,” lol, adding it’s “worse than 2018. Trump is heading to Bush 2006 levels.”

Not sure that’s entirely fair to Dubya, who most would probably agree had his shit more together more than this guy, who now says he’s rejecting a peace proposal from Iran because they want the Strait of Hormuz open. Keep in mind this is just under six months after he screamed “Open the Fuckin’ Strait, you crazy bastards, or you’ll be living in Hell” in an Easter morning Truth Social rant.

That message was at least relatively direct and concise compared to this one posted just now…

..above a screenshot of a tweet in which Florida MAGA Congressman and gubernatorial nominee Byron Donalds did not actually deny purging his campaign website of mentions of Donald singular, including the pledge to “Enact the Trump Agenda” that formerly headlined the “issues” page.

And all that’s just a small taste of how this week went for Republicans, as mentioned in the headline, which isn’t even the only “bottom falling out” one printed in this stretch as an anonymous House member this week told Politico that “The bottom’s beginning to fall out. We have money that we’ve never had before, but they have every strategic advantage in their direction, and the president’s made it worse – nobody in my district cares about the Kennedy Center, arches or the Reflecting Pool, all this nonsense,” quoted under a headline of “Republican Cash Blitz Meets a $5-Gas Election.”

The “Politico Magazine” piece also said that the Senate GOP’s campaign arm is getting ready to give up on North Carolina and Georgia in favor of trying to flip Michigan and New Hampshire. “Yet even the most hopeful GOP strategist doesn’t believe they’ll pick up New Hampshire and Michigan if this Category 4 storm grows into a Cat 5 wipeout… It has gained scant national attention, because of the state’s dramatic political realignment, but even Sen Tom Cotton has been bombarding his Democratic opponent with negative ads, a precautionary move surely inspired by Trump’s drag on the Arkansas Republican,” writes Politico, not even bothering to name that Dem opponent.

However the headline here lifted from a Friday Wall Street Journal report quoting Republican strategist Colin Reed, who said “This is the week where it felt like the bottom started falling out in earnest. President Trump is the Republican Party right now, and by virtue of his lower approval ratings, the entire party is dealing with that political reality,” with no acknowledgement whatsoever of the vast wealth of opportunities the party had to remove him over a decade of non-stop high crimes, misdemeanors, and felonies by the fat degenerate fuck and his minions.

“A new Wall Street Journal poll shows that voters have soured on the president, portending trouble for members of his party in November. Just 37 percent approve of the job that Trump is doing, according to the poll, which was conducted earlier this month. It is the lowest approval rating of any president heading into a midterm election in Journal polls dating to 1990,” the Journal writes.

Data, vibes, headlines, the most fucking on-brand headlines about a Republican woman imaginable, this week had it all, too much to blend coherently in a meta-narrative besides simply boxing it all together within the seven-day stretch that was – with only five more to go until the big day.

One last actual data point however: If you actually follow the Economist/YouGov weekly tracking survey you’re probably in it more for their clever, often darkly revealing questions (or artful juxtaposition of the questions) quantifying the depravity of the helpfully labelled “2024 Vote” columns identifying the Trump voting subsample. What those survey results were not over this past year were sugary lib catnip for those tuned into the generic congressional ballot, typically finding like a six or seven point lead for the Ds over the GOP, a contrast with that of Marist/NPR/PBS Newshour (Dems +12) or even (usually) pro-MAGA Emerson College (Dems +11 this week).

Now that gap’s closing too…

“It’s looked bad for Republicans all year, but this week felt different – like the political environment was disintegrating in real time, one ominous data point after another,” wrote Axios in the article with the spinning alarm light GIF. God willing their graphic art team makes it a “five-alarm fire” at some point next month. For now enjoy it and stay maybe a little more optimistic than just cautiously.
