This story benefits from more straightforward chronology than the one presented by the Houston Chronicle in their story headlined “Greg Abbott pulls endorsement of Texas House candidate after video shows DWI arrest, racial slur,” emphasis added on the conditional nature of the undorsement.
On February 14th, Republican Texas state House District 144 candidate David Flores – currently running to unseat Pasadena Dem State Representative Mary Ann Perez – was pulled over by cops, blew a 0.11 on the breathalyzer, and arrested for DWI. In May, Governor Low Energy Greg Abbott announced his endorsement of Flores, who the next month pleaded guilty to a misdemeanor and was sentenced to probation. A timeline which means that for the better part of the last four months it was an immutable matter of public record that Flores had, in a court of law, admitted to the crime.
It was not however until last week that Dem strategy group the Lone Star Project had obtained and published video of Flores’s arrest in which he tried to pull rank on the cops by telling them Abbott had endorsed him (three months before the endorsement was publicly announced) and that he was friends with extremist nerd state lawmaker Briscoe Cain, then for reasons unclear muttered “fucking pig shit ass [n-word]” while in the back seat of the squad car following the failed sobriety test.
“Neither of the arresting officers appeared to be Black,” the Chronicle writes and the video makes it clear Flores was simply talking like a particularly stupid teenager in that moment as well as pretty much every sentence he uttered. Yet it was that utterance of “n—a” not “n—er,” not the DWI, the plea, the fact that this kid fucking talks like the hip-hop lyrics that he no doubt had blasting before he was pulled over, that did him in with Abbott. All of it says a lot about the three-going-on-four-term governor, but just the way Flores talks in the video almost says more about the Texas GOP as a whole. THIS asshole manages to present himself as a Republican politician? Seriously listen to him talk to the cops before he gets arrested. Flores sounds like some shitty right wing comedian’s impression of a Latino male getting questioned about his immigration status. Can almost hear the gears turning in Greg Gutfeld’s head as he conceives of a bit on an illegal trying to pretend he’s MAGA to avoid getting deported, just minus the “aye carumba” Gutfeld would jam in.
