For the maybe two of you concerned that Ilhan Omar’s second marriage – which may or may have not have been to her brother – is going to end her career, fear not: TMZ reports that Omar’s ex, Bristol, UK-based doctoral researcher Ahmed Nur Said Elmi, identified himself as LGBTQ in a paper published in August. “As a gay man of the East African diaspora, my fieldwork was never neutral,” Elmi wrote in the paper, titled “Out in the Field: Notes on Researching Queer Violence in Kenya.”

Thus the leftist Congresswoman constantly targeted by the impotent rage of convicted felon President Trump and his cult, is exceedingly unlikely to have been in a physically incestuous relationship with the man who may or may not be her brother. Just a sham one to help him obtain legal US residency, whether he’s her brother or not. On balance it kind of dulls the salience of the constant tantrums over that specific part of Omar’s biography – from a political standpoint at least.

From a legal standpoint? Going to go out on a limb and guess that a 2009 marriage that then ended nearly a decade ago, whether it was fraudulent one way or another, falls outside of the statute of limitations on immigration fraud. Still have to wonder why Omar doesn’t just turn it around and say something like “There is a lot of truth to what you’ve been hearing about me and it’s time to set the record straight: My brother Ahmed is now living happily in the UK as an out and proud gay man, when for most of his life before that he had to keep his true self secret. I helped him keep it secret and escape danger in Somalia, where LGTBQ people are often murdered on the spot. That I had to pretend we were a couple and marry him to help him build a new life here in the United States is as sad a statement on our broken immigration system as one can get” and so on and so forth.

Gotta believe her own voters would sympathize – if it isn’t already a known and accepted open secret in her district’s Somali community. That said, she deals with enough shit from the Reich, and maybe coming clean on her history and non-incestuous sham marriage can wait a few months.
