Hall of Fame baseball player Lou Brock, a six-time All Star and stolen base legend who spent most of his career with the St. Louis Cardinals, has died at the age of 81, ESPN reports.
At the time of his retirement in 1979, Brock held the Major League record for career stolen bases. He also surpassed the 3,000 hit milestone. He and Henderson are the only two players in baseball history with more than 3,000 hits and 900 stolen bases.
Brock died of multiple myeloma, a blood cancer, that was diagnosed in 2017. He also suffered from severe diabetes, which prompted the amputation of his left leg due to an infection in 2015.
Brock is survived wife, Jackie, which whom he served as ministers in Abundant Life Fellowship Church in St. Louis.
Brock’s death occurs less than a week after the death of Hall of Fame pitcher Tom Seaver.
