Trump lawyer Evan Corcoran has informed a federal judge he’s recusing himself from the case relating to Trump’s refusal to return stolen classified documents but will continue representing the twice-impeached former president in other criminal cases, the Washington Post reports.
Corcoran himself is under investigation in the case for composing a letter filed with the Court asserting that there were no other documents sought by the National Archives at Mar-a-Lago, Trump’s geriatric supper club and reception venue. Instead of signing the letter himself, another Trump attorney, Christina Bobb, signed the declaration. Bobb appeared before the Washington, DC grand jury investigating the Trump documents case, directed by Special Counsel Jack Smith, earlier this year, as did Corcoran. As potential co-conspirators in the criminal case, neither Corcoran nor Bobb can claim attorney-client privilege. Beside the testimony Corcoran gave as early as January of this year, the Washington Post reports Corcoran testified in March as well.
Corcoran will continue to represent Trump in other of the myriad legal troubles facing the already-indicted defendant, including the federal probe into the January 6th Republican-led domestic terrorist attack on the Capitol Trump is accused of instigating.
