Five dead in UK from new "Arcturus" COVID strain

Five people have died from the new 105 XBB.1.16 strain of the COVID-19 virus – aka “Arcturus” – in the United Kingdom, all of them in Northeast England, the UKHSA reports via the Independent.

Arcturus reportedly causes horrible pink-eye like symptoms in patients, but it’s unclear who decided the virus variant had to have this ominous, science-fiction-ish name attached to it.
