Republican Florida Governor and presidential candidate who came up a bit short Ron DeSantis declared a state of emergency in 54 of Florida’s 67 counties as a storm brews in the Gulf of Mexico that could dump as much as 12 inches of rain on the state, the trailer park of the country, the Palm Beach Post reports.
The system, currently known as Invest 97L, will likely develop into a tropical storm before hitting Florida, where additional significant rainfall would result in flooding over large parts of the state because the water table of the reclaimed swampland is already near its capacity after other storms swept through the region.
