Canadian Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs David Morrison on Tuesday testified to Parliament that Indian Home Affairs Minister Amit Shah, a close ally of dictator Narendra Modi, is behind an ongoing campaign of murder, extortion and intimidation of members of the Sikh community in Canada, including the 2023 assassination of leader Hardeep Singh Nijjar near Vancouver, the CBC reports.
Advocacy group Sikhs for Justice issued a statement Tuesday calling for Shah to be prosecuted under Canadian law. “Amit Shah has weaponized India’s security agencies to hunt down and eliminate pro-Khalistan activists, even beyond India’s borders,” said SFJ counsel Gurpatwant Singh Pannun in the statement, with “Khalistan” referring to the state that Sikh separatists have been fighting to establish for decades. “The assassination of Hardeep Singh Nijjar on Canadian soil is not just an isolated crime – it is part of a well-thought-out policy executed under Shah’s directives to crush the voices of Sikhs advocating for self-determination and justice,” Singh Pannun continued.
Last year the FBI thwarted a plot similar to the Singh Nijjar hit in Queens.
