Roughly the equivalent of the population of Des Moines, Iowa tested positive for the coronavirus on Tuesday, as the US recorded 213,000 new cases and more than 2,600 fatalities, according to the COVID Tracking Project.
Current hospitalizations increased by 2%, with more than 104,000 people in-patient for coronavirus in the US, a new high.
On the Worldometers aggregator, California led the nation with 26,000 new cases. Arizona, Ohio, Pennsylvania and Texas all exceeded 10,000 new cases reported Tuesday. California and Michigan topped 200 fatalities, with eight other states over 100.
The seven-day running average for both new cases and fatalities in the US set new records.
