According to the Johns Hopkins COVID tracking site, the United States has surpassed 20 million confirmed coronavirus cases since the pandemic began, as of the sites update at 12:22 p.m. ET.
The current case count means that 1 in 16 Americans has been infected with the coronavirus. The US has nearly twice as many cases as the next nation on the list, India; India, however, has four times the population of the United States.
The US has only the second highest infection rate of a nation with more than 1 million in population. With a population just over 10 million, the Czech Republic has a slightly higher infection rate.
