An armed pastor in a Texas church discovered a fugitive hiding in his church’s bathroom, but the burglar got the weapon away from the pastor and shot him and injured two others at the church, KHOU CBS-11 reports. The pastor died from his wounds.
The suspect, who has been capture by police, led Smith County law enforcement on a chase, sometimes pointing a shotgun out the window of his car. The fugitive abandoned his car after a tire blew out and he fled the scene, evading police.
He apparently took shelter in the bathroom of Starrville Methodist Church in Winona, Texas, where he was found in a stall this morning by the church’s pastor, who was armed. The pastor instructed the fugitive to leave, but the fugitive wrested the gun away from the pastor and shot and killed him. The suspect suffered a gunshot wound to the hand in the struggle.
Escaping from the church, the suspect shot one other person; a second person was injured in a fall. The suspect stole the pastor’s car and fled. He was apprehended by law enforcement after taking off on the interstate, reaching speeds of 120 m.p.h.
