Missouri Republican Senator Josh Hawley jumped on Twitter this morning to scream about a group of “antifa scumbags” he claimed were terrorizing and vandalizing his house in suburban Virginia while his poor wife and infant daughter were inside?
““Tonight while I was in Missouri, Antifa scumbags came to our place in DC and threatened my wife and newborn daughter, who can’t travel. They screamed threats, vandalized, and tried to pound open our door. Let me be clear: My family & I will not be intimidated by leftwing violence,” Hawley tweeted.
Police were called to the scene and informed the group of about 15 people–who stayed on public streets and sidewalks except to place a copy of the Constitution on the front door–that they were in violation of three local ordinances, according to the Kansas City Star. The violations? Writing on the sidewalk in chalk. Protesting outside a private residence. And noise restrictions.
No terrorism. No vandalism. No threats to his wife and children. Not even a good ol’ fashioned trespassing.
Officer Juan Vazquez, a spokesman for the Vienna, Virginia police, said the responding officers told protestors of the potential citations, and they left peacefully and without incident eight minutes later.
“It was a minor event,” Vazquez said. “Basically we got a call saying there was some sort of protest in front of a residence in our town… The group was maybe 15 to 20 people.”
It seems Hawley didn’t even file a complaint. But he did go back on Twitter to whine some more.
“Now ‘vigil’ means screaming threats through bullhorns, vandalizing property, pounding on the doors of homes and terrorizing innocent people and children,” Hawley said.
But again, Vienna police said they don’t know what Hawley’s talking about–particularly because he’s still in Missouri and the incident wasn’t scary enough for him to rush home to protect his family.
“We don’t know of any property that was damaged,” Vazquez said. “They didn’t report it at the time we went there.”
