Facing a steep disadvantage in fundraising dollars for the upcoming campaign, House republicans are pleading with the Trump campaign and the republican National Committee for financial assistance so they can compete in the November elections, the Washington Post reports.
While House Minority Leader Kevin McCarthy (R-CA) has repeatedly asked the RNC for a significant injection of funds into the National republican Congressional Committee, he’s hit a brick wall. Jared Kushner–Donald Trump’s son-in-law, a senior White House advisor and a Trump campaign leader–has denied such requests.
Somehow, in republican leadership, Kushner has more control over RNC funds than even Ronna Romney McDaniel, the chairperson of the RNC.
Even as the Trump campaign and the RNC are bringing in tens of millions of dollars, the RNCC is struggling to attract donors because many republican fundraisers feel the House is a lost cause for the GOP, given Trump’s low poll numbers and his drag on downticket races.
