More than 40 cows escaped a slaughterhouse in Los Angeles County, California and stampeded through a residential neighborhood early Tuesday morning, CBS News reports. The cows roamed the Pico Rivera neighborhood for hours before being wrangled and taken back to the facility.
The animals apparently escaped the Manning Foods processing site by charging a gate at the facility. Deputies on foot and in cars attempted to corner the animals in a dead-end street, but the cows outsmarted them and scattered throughout the neighborhood. Mounted officers and some local ranchers helped corral the wayward heard.
One cow was shot by a sheriff’s deputy after it started to charge at a family. The officer may claim that he saw the cow, who was non-white, reach for a weapon, prompting him to shoot, which is exactly the outcome that would’ve happened at the slaughterhouse. Fox News is expected to report the death as AOC’s attempt to curb greenhouse gases, or Biden’s effort to stop you from eating hamburgers.
