Amway heiress and former government employee Betsy DeVos announced Monday that she will not seek the GOP nomination for Michigan governor, WJBK Fox 2 in Detroit reports. The Secretary of Education during the Trump administration was considered one of the front runners for the nomination.
“I am not running for governor,” DeVos told The Detroit News, which reported the announcement first. “It’s not going to be me. I appreciate that some folks are interested in that, but I think the rumor and interest really only serves to highlight how desperate Michiganders are for new leadership.”
The 63-year-old billionaire and sister of mercenary Erik Prince said she never seriously considered a challenge to sitting Democratic Governor Gretchen Whitmer. The anti-union and anti-public schools advocate would face harsh response from die-hard Trump supporters because she resigned from the Trump administration in protest to Trump’s incitement of the January 6th domestic terrorist attack on the Capitol.
